STRING MUSIC

String Quartet in Three Movements

A string quartet in three movements by Roy Swanson.  The piece begins with contemplative and flowing music as the title of the movement is “Flowing.”  The second movement is titled “Rap” due to its rhythmic pulse.  The instruments each take parts in the driving rhythm, giving the listener a sense of a group of rap artists improvising a song in this genre.  The third movement returns to a slow and contemplative feel before suddenly changing into a rhythmic figure characterized by triplets surrounded by eighth notes that compliment the melodic tune in the other instruments.  String players will love playing this piece for their audiences!

Please Lord, More

During a staff meeting the pastor asked each of us to talk about how things are with our souls. Our Youth Director, filled with the Holy Spirit, began talking about how much she loves God and how could she possibly love Him even more. “Lord, You reached for me, I felt your call. I answered with a simple ‘Here I am’ and I became your messenger…” As she was talking, her words were written down and then set to music. The resulting song captured the emotion she was feeling as God was not only talking to her, He was talking to everyone in the room through her. Please Lord More is a song of heartfelt worship and love for God, our Creator.  This version is for solo piano, and contains plenty of expressive technique while staying true to the intent of the original song.
